How to properly store and handle cardboard packaging and POS displays?

A few small mistakes in storing and handling packaging, displays and POS materials made of corrugated cardboard, and products can lose their shape and colour. In this article, you’ll find practical tips on how to ensure the maximum lifespan and functionality of our corrugated cardboard products. You’ll avoid unnecessary complaints and significantly extend their lifespan.
Proper storage: longer lifespan and full functionality
Proper storage and appropriate handling ensure the best possible functionality and long lifespan of corrugated cardboard and paperboard products. We manufacture our products from natural and recycled materials – various types of corrugated cardboard, honeycomb board, paperboard (solid board), and other paper-, cellulose- and wood-based materials.
Thanks to their origin, these materials are recyclable and environmentally friendly, but their properties can also be affected by various external conditions.
5 rules for proper storage
- Store in dry areas with a temperature of 19–23 °C and relative humidity of 55–65%.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes.
- Do not store packaging near heating sources, chemicals or aggressive fumes.
- Protect products from direct sunlight (UV radiation), which can affect the colours and strength of the material.
- Prevent contact with water and high humidity, which can cause softening and loss of strength.

Our products are designed primarily for short-term, single use indoors. If you need to extend their lifespan, we offer surface lamination, special material reinforcement (often used, for example, in floor displays), or adaptations for extreme conditions, such as for freezer units.
Test a sample yourself before mass production
For every order, we offer the option of producing a sample at the quality level of the final product. Please test it under real conditions of use – functionality, load capacity and the required resistance (moisture, temperature, UV). You know best the specific conditions in which the packaging or display will be used, so if you have particular requirements regarding strength, load capacity or other properties, we recommend simulating real-life use on the sample first.
If the sample passes your thorough testing, you can be confident that the final product will serve you well. We guarantee the same or higher quality for the final product as well.

Handling and assembly – how to avoid damage
Unless otherwise agreed (e.g. delivery of fully assembled displays and filled packaging to branches), we deliver our products in flat-packed form.
This protects the product during transport and also saves you on shipping costs – once assembled, it takes up considerably more space. When handling and assembling, it’s important to proceed carefully to avoid unwanted damage or weakening of the material’s strength.

What to pay special attention to:
- Follow the correct assembly procedure and avoid folding it “inside out”. Always start with a visual check – examine the appearance of the cardboard (the smoother side is the visible side) and the pre-marked fold lines (creases). Especially with unprinted packaging, mistakes can easily happen the first time if you lack experience. If you’re not sure, check out our video tutorials or get in touch with us – we’ll be happy to guide you.
- Handle with care. Treat corrugated cardboard and paperboard products gently. Excessive or repeated bending, undue pressure or rough handling can cause cracks or deformation.
- Follow the recommended load capacity for fully assembled products. Overloading the packaging leads to damage and loss of strength. If you find in practice that the load capacity needs to be increased, get in touch with us – for many constructions, it’s possible to add reinforcing elements or supports afterwards.
From our own experience, we know it takes a moment to figure out the correct assembly process. That’s why, just in case, we send a few extra pieces for free with every order – if the first attempt doesn’t work out, no problem, you’ll still have a backup.
Package arrived damaged? 3 steps to resolve it
Did your shipment arrive visibly damaged in transit? In that case, we recommend not accepting it at all and instead following the steps below. This will save you time and hassle with a later complaint:
- Thoroughly inspect the shipment before signing for it – look out for dents, torn tape or damaged packaging.
- If you notice any damage, ask the courier to draw up a damage report (couriers carry these with them). Include a description of the damage, the shipment number and the delivery date.
- Photograph the damage – both the packaging and the contents, ideally before unpacking. Return the shipment to the courier and contact us about the next steps.
This procedure ensures that any complaint to the shipping company will be handled as quickly as possible, and that you’ll subsequently receive undamaged goods.
If you discover the damage only after the courier has left (e.g. after unpacking), most carriers will not accept a complaint without a report made on the spot – which is why checking at the moment of delivery is essential. Please pay close attention to this.

Time matters: handle complaints without delay
Every order undergoes thorough outgoing quality control. Nevertheless, please inspect the goods carefully immediately upon delivery.
- If you notice any mechanical damage from transport, let us know immediately. Due to the nature of the material, later complaints cannot be taken into account.
- Minor cosmetic differences between production batches and slight cracks on the inner side of fold lines are normal – they don’t affect the strength or functionality of the product and are not grounds for a complaint.
- If you have specific requirements regarding strength or special surface treatment (e.g. lamination for higher abrasion resistance), let us know already at the inquiry stage or during prototype development – together we’ll find the best solution.
